Buying ‘Omar’, as he is called, was an absolute must! When we started to receive large orders for wine to be sent all over the world, we found that most of the lorries arrived unequipped to take the fully charged pallets from the cave to the road, the semi articulated lorry being unable to enter our drive.

A forklift truck was essential and I had to learn to operate it. After much searching to find one at a good price, they hold their value so are difficult to find, especially in an agricultural region, Fred finally tracked one down in St Etienne.

Another complete saga here when Omar, its owner, drove it like a maniac onto the hired trailer, creating a large hole in its wooden floor, making the return journey with the truck impossibly dangerous.

Finally it was safely at Maison des Bulliats. Another trailer hired and an intrepid journey. Fred usually drives Omar but I am sometimes on my own here with orders to get out on time so I had to learn!
